Captain's Bio

Charleston Lowcountry Fishing Guide Service

Captain Benjamin Young | Owner & Operator

Captain Ben was born to fish. Beginning at the young age of 4, when his grandfather gave him his first push button rod and reel, Captain Ben realized that he was hooked on fishing.

Growing up in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, he fished for smallmouth bass, panfish, and trout. Through his teenage years and early adult life, he has traveled to many parts of Canada, Nova Scotia, Alaska, Maine, and New Hampshire pursuing many different types of fish, from stripers, salmon, to Bluefin tuna.

Captain Ben is also a retired veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard; during his tenure with the Coast Guard, he has had the privilege of fishing in some of the most exotic places on earth, from the Florida Keys, Louisiana, Panama, and the Pacific side of Costa Rica.

Captain Ben has been fly fishing Charleston’s Low Country region of South Carolina for over a decade now, his love for the Low Country is evident, as he works very hard to put his clients on trophy redfish. Captain Ben fishes out of a 2016 Maverick 17 HPX-S, powered by an F70 Yamaha. His boat can float in 6” of water, allowing you to take full advantage of fishing a flat on a flood tide or chasing redfish on a low tide maximizing the most of your time on the water.

The fishing trip Includes all bait, tackle, license’s, ice, and water. We usually fish for redfish, spotted sea trout, flounder, sharks, and the occasional tarpon.

When you fish with Captain Ben, you get a first-class experience, from the boat, the fishing gear, and the exceptional personality Captain Ben has. “I take no greater joy than to put someone on a fish, to possibly put someone on their first fish in their life, to put someone on a trophy redfish, and to fish with children and family, building memories that will last a lifetime.”

Captain Ben offers inshore spinning and fly-fishing trips as well as echo/dolphin tours. When he is not fishing with clients, Captain Ben is in the water, continually scouting and looking for new places to fish, following the bite, watching fish patterns, and furthering his knowledge of the sport he loves so much.

If you are looking to experience Charleston and the low country and make memories that will last a lifetime, look no further than Captain Ben, he will make sure you receive courteous and exceptional service in whatever adventure you choose.
